Purple Day

Annually the SHARKS participate in the Alzheimer's Walk in NYC. To fund-raise for this event we host a Purple Day at PS 83 and in the community. Our goal is not only to raise awareness about Alzheimer's Disease but also to show support to those members who have a loved one suffering from this illness.

Research

Starting in 2019, C.O.M.E., Inc. will be

conducting research on the topic of youth care-giving in NYC. We will be partnering

with local schools and facilities to study

in-depth the effects of youth care-giving

in our local neighborhoods. More information will be made public at a later date.

Bronx Youth Caregiver's Symposium

From our initial research and conversations with educators, we realize that there is minimal knowledge in the community on youth caregivers. As part of our youth caregiver initiatives we want to fill this void and increase awareness for these students by educating healthcare providers, teachers, guidance counselors, social workers and other professionals on the challenge of youth caring. Therefore we will be hosting a symposium in the spring of 2020 on youth care-giving. Visit www.youthcaregiving.com to learn more!

Game Night

The SHARKS Program currently provides support up to 20 children per school year. As a give back to the other youth caregivers in the school the current  SHARKS students annually host a family game night for the children and parents of P.S. 83. Even if it's just for one night we want other youth caregivers to know that they are not alone.

Youth Caregiver Story Collection

Do you know a youth caregiver who would be interested in sharing their story. We will be collecting all stories until September 2020, when we will choose who to nominate for the Leon David Simmons Caregiver Award.

Outdoor Family Day

Family Day

The end of the year celebration for the

SHARKS and their families. Congratulating all on another productive program year. An opportunity to say a job well done for the students on a successful academic year. A little something to carry us over until we meet again in September.
