Caregivers Outreach: Youth Empowerment (COYE) is proud to host the First New York State Youth Caregiver Symposium, bringing together professionals, educators, healthcare providers, social service agencies, community organizations, policymakers, students, and advocates to raise awareness about youth caregivers and build stronger systems of support.

Youth caregivers are young people who provide care or support to a parent, grandparent, sibling, or loved one impacted by illness, disability, aging, mental health challenges, substance use, or other complex needs. Many youth caregivers remain hidden and unsupported, often balancing school, work, family responsibilities, and their own personal development. This symposium is designed to start a statewide conversation and move from awareness to action.

Why This Matters

Youth caregivers are often responsible, compassionate, and deeply committed to their families, but many carry responsibilities far beyond their years without formal recognition or support.

By bringing professionals and community leaders together, this symposium will help create a shared understanding of youth caregiving and promote coordinated solutions across New York State.
